I just bought a one way ticket to Rio de Janeiro, Brazil. I leave April 7th.
I love Latin America, but narrowing it down further was tough. Here’re some of the reasons.
- Portuguese
I get to expand my language library. My Spanish is pretty decent, but being in some place where you don’t speak the languages forces you to adapt quickly.
- Weather.
April is fall in southern hemisphere, so weather will range from a frigid low of 68F to 85F most days.
- Jiu Jitsu.
I’ve already been training for a bit in the US, but training with world class instructors and teammates is an awesome opportunity.
- Relaxed Lifestyle.
Brazilians are well known for their relaxed view of the world, so it would be nice to live somewhere without a constant NYC-type rush.
I have a place to stay for first few days or so. Afterwards my goal is to find an apartment for a longer-term stay. My goal is to live for at least 3 months.

After living and working for many years in San Francisco Bay Area, I decided to sell everything and move somewhere completely new to live while making money online.
It has been something I’ve been thinking of doing for a while, with being more or less serious in the past three years. My plan is to somehow make money online, while living outside the US thus benefiting in lower costs and new experiences.
Thanks to craigslist, I recently sold/donated/throw out everything in my apartment. The toughest part was selling the car, which I was lucky enough to had a buyer show up within a week of me leaving SF on a one way ticket.
This blog will talk about my experiences living in a far-away land focusing on immersing in the culture, people, traveling with some personal thoughts and reflections.
I won’t be discussing my professional life here except to say that I hope to cover those aspects further down the road here on this site or on another site.
Ok, so where to go?

This blog is about quitting the rat race (corporate life), and instead living abroad while making money via the internet.
My background is software development. For the last eight years I have worked in some of the largest high tech companies in San Francisco/Silicon Valley. I have gained some immeasurable experience but also realized that corporate life is not for me.
Starting in 2009 I embarked on a mission to live in various places around the world while using some of my skills to fund this lifestyle.
This blog will be about me living around the world, while immersing into culture, food, people–given of course a stable WiFi connection.
